Description
Two Chinese saucers, finely potted and translucent, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, and dating from the Kangxi period. Both of these saucers have good quality decoration with a central roundel decorated with a flower spray (a lotus in one, a peony in the other) and surrounded by 8 shaped panesl with further flowers and foliage. The rim of one has a diaper pattern, and the other a pattern of pine needles. Both saucers have flowers sprays on the reverse, and a mark within double underglaze blue circles to the base. Diameters 12.4 cm (4.9”) and 12.8cm (5”)
From our personal reference collection. The quality of the decoration can be appreciated from the pictures. Saucers like these provide an opportunity to have good examples of Kangxi porcelain at a significantly lower price than would be paid for a dish of equal quality of decoration!
Dating: Kangxi c1700-1720
Condition:
The saucer with the central lotus decoration and the pine needle border is in excellent, undamaged, condition. The saucer with the central peony decoration has 2 tight hairlines, the first extending 2.5 cm from the rim, and the second extending 5 mm from the rim.
