Description

A good quality and well-decorated Chinese ovoid jar with later wooden cover, decorated in underglaze blue, and dating from the Kangxi period.

The jar has been attractively decorated with flowing branches separated by individual flower heads and stylised insects. There is a cross-hatched band of decoration around the top of the jar.  The wooden fretwork lid is of good quality, and is inset with a decorated metal panel and with a metal rim.  Height without wooden cover 14.5cm (5.7")

Dating: Kangxi c 1700 - 1720

Condition:

This vase is in  excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. There are two areas of glaze around the foot rim which have discoloured slightly during firing (see images). The wooden cover is also in very good condition with perhaps one or two small losses to the fretwork.
