Description
A fine quality Chinese export teabowl and saucer, very thinly potted and translucent, moulded into petals and incised with fine lines following the shape of the petals, and dating from the Yongzheng or early Qianlong period c1740. After its arrival in Europe both the teabowl and saucer were decorated, probably in Holland, with gilt lines following the petal outlines, and with butterflies. Saucer diameter 11.6cm (4.5"), teabowl diameter 7.4cm (2.9")

The incised lines are a very subtle form of decoration and I have not found it easy to photograph them. The gold pattern was generated by the Dutch decorators by following the outline of the petals. This pattern was also used in English porcelain later in the Eighteenth Century, where it is sometimes known as the 'Gold Queen's' pattern.
Condition
Both the teabowl and saucer are in excellent, undamaged condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
