Description
A good quality and attractive Chinese teabowl and saucer, finely potted and translucent, decorated with overglaze blue enamel, and dating from the Qianlong period. The teabowl and saucer are both decorated with delicate flowering branches, and with birds. The veins of the leaves and the petals on the flowers have been created by drawing into the blue enamel with a fine point before firing. The birds are outlined in black enamel. The rims of both the teabowl and saucer have a fine line of gilding. Saucer diameter 11.4 cm (4.5”)
It is quite unusual to have this fine overglaze enamel decoration, rather than the more usual underglaze blue decoration.
Dating: Qianlong 1736 - 1795
Condition:
This set is in very good condition. There are a few tiny nibbles from the rim of the saucer. No other damage and no restoration. The enamels are also in very good condition, with just minor rubbing and loss (see images). There is some rubbing to the gilding at the rims. There is a little kiln dust adhering in the glaze to the inside of the cup.
